Background Info
In my first year of Game Design, I made a small visual narrative game about a new assistant on a film set. Players can choose to be cocky and privileged or kind and helpful. These dialogue choices and actions will affect the relationships with characters and determine if you are the right fit for the job. Tasks like ordering coffees, copying scripts and assisting people around the room will test the player's memory and ability to follow instructions.
Objective
While the narrative of this game seems very light, the story's progress is determined by the player's attitude toward their superiors and their accuracy for each task they were assigned. Their skills will determine the end of the day.
The goal of this project was to get familiar with the engine, Ren'py, and prove that I can manage deadlines to complete a playable game.
In the beginning, I wanted the characters to be based on different shapes. While this was a great way to begin designing personalities, I switched to a more realistic art style as I wanted to prove to myself that I did not have same face syndrome.
Looking back, I realized that I gravitate toward the simpler designs. The characteristics shown by just the visuals were a lot clearer than my final iteration. The producer looks stern and professional, which means you shouldn't bother her and get through the tasks she assigned quickly. Although you can infer this in the realistic version, it is a lot more subjective.
